YeBo Playmakers are bringing play, learning and support to more communities across Cape Town!

A new partnership between YearBeyond and the City of Cape Town’s Recreation and Parks hubs is creating more opportunities for children and young people to play, learn and explore new skills in their communities.

Through the partnership, the YeBo Playmakers programme has expanded into four communities, Summer Greens, Atlantis, Dunoon and Joe Slovo, with YeBoneers now supporting services across eight community hubs.

Working alongside centre teams at spaces including the Atlantis Multipurpose Centre, Du Noon Hall, Joe Slovo Hall and Summer Greens Hall, YeBo Playmakers are helping to create welcoming and engaging environments where children and learners can participate, build confidence and simply enjoy being active.

Their activities include recreational and indigenous games, mini-sport activities, e-sports and holiday programmes, alongside holistic support for centre teams. The aim is to make community recreation spaces places where young people can connect with others, discover new interests and develop skills through play.

The partnership is also opening the door to new forms of learning.

YeBoneers received coding training from the Leva Foundation, equipping them with the skills to facilitate Tangible Coding sessions with learners. These sessions introduce children to the world of coding through hands-on activities, encouraging creativity, curiosity and problem-solving.

For YeBo Playmakers, this means their role extends beyond facilitating games and activities. They are also creating opportunities for young people to engage with technology and develop skills that can support their learning and future pathways.

By bringing together recreation, sport, technology and holistic support, the YeBo Playmakers programme is helping community hubs become spaces where children can play, learn, connect and grow, right in the communities where they live.
