About the programme

The Khulisa Care programme supports underweight pregnant women and mothers of low birthweight babies. It focuses on improving maternal and infant nutrition by providing eligible mothers with a monthly healthy food voucher, redeemable at Shoprite, alongside ongoing support from Community Health Workers (CHWs) and YeBoneers.

The programme aims to improve nutrition, strengthen breastfeeding practices, support healthy baby growth, and ensure early referral to additional health or social services when needed.

What do YeBoneers do?

YeBoneers on the Khulisa Care Programme support the programme at clinic level.

As Khulisa Care YeBoneers, they will:

  • Support Mothers’ Understanding: Help mothers understand how the programme works and how to use their food vouchers effectively.

  • Strengthen Clinic Connections: Support mothers to stay connected to Community Health Workers and attend regular clinic visits.

  • Promote Healthy Practices: Reinforce messages around good nutrition, breastfeeding, and infant care.

  • Support Clinic Operations: Assist with the daily running of the programme at Primary Health Care (PHC) facilities and Midwife Obstetric Units (MOUs).

What are the eligibility requirements?

You can apply for the YearBeyond Planet Youth Programme if:

  • You are 21-25 years old.

  • You have a matric certificate.

  • You live within a 5km radius of one of the schools where the programme is implemented.

  • You are outgoing, love listening to people, and enjoy working with learners.

Meeting these eligibility requirements does not guarantee selection for the programme. To be considered, you must meet the eligibility requirements and then be selected through the recruitment selection process.
